I sometimes wonder if our work at S+L TV would be better served if our programming were to air on another network, a secular network. Don’t get me wrong. I passionately believe in the work we do and completely believe in the value of a 100%-Catholic Network broadcasting Catholic content 24/7. Still, it is Catholics ...read more
I clearly remember at the conclusion of Cologne’s World Youth Day saying: “Bring on Sydney!” (which in hindsight is somewhat amusing, because I recall after Toronto in 2002 I said “Bring on Cologne!”) Two years have quickly passed since the excitement of Sydney first washed over me, and now we are just some 390 days ...read more
Here are the lyrics for Receive the Power, the theme song for World Youth in Sydney, Australia to be held July 14th-20th 2008. Below the lyrics is an interesting theological reflection on the song by WYD08 Coordinator Bishop Anthony Fisher, O.P. Our conversation was for Salt + Light’s daily update program Zoom (Tuesday, June 19th/07 edition) and focussed on a recent national symposium on the Theology of the Body held in Edmonton. Are you familiar with the Theology of the ...read more

The president of the Italian Bishops has received another death threat. It’s one of just several Archbishop Angelo Bagnasco has had to endure over the last six months, though the gravity of the threats have increased. This time it came in the form of an envelope, containing three bullets and a message which read “I ...read more
Think being Catholic is just going to Mass on Sunday? You may want to reconsider that thought after Wednesday’s episode of Catholic Focus (airing at 7pm and 11pm ET, with a Saturday repeat at the same times) As you may have read on this blog, myself, associate producer Kris Dmytrenko, and cameraman Wally Tello headed ...read more
On June 4th, I had the privilege of watching a short video produced by St. Marguerite d’Youville Secondary School on CBC. The piece was actually from an assignment in D’Youville’s Grade 11 Communications Technology course. The short segment, “Nothing Isn’t Always Nothing”, won the Making the Grade 2 Video Contest sponsored by CBC Television. I ...read more
