Mount Athos, Saint Joseph of Hesychast
Saint Joseph the Hesychast was born in Paros in 1897. Longing for the ascetic life, he went to Mount Athos at the age of 23. His entire life reads like a story from the lives of the saints, reminiscent of the desert ascetics of old. A true exponent of the patristic tradition, Saint Joseph contributed to the renewal of Athonite monasticism and modern Orthodox monasticism in general. Today, some 2,000 monks and nuns throughout the world trace their spiritual paternity to him.

Within Your Gates
In May 2009, Benedict XVI became just the third pope to ever visit the Holy Land. His encounter with the Fifth Gospel, as this land is often described, cast new light on the shrines that commemorate the life of Jesus, as well as the rugged geography He roamed two thousand years ago. Kris Dmytrenko retraces the Pope's pilgrim path through Israel and the Palestinian Territories. Dmytrenko leads viewers from Nazareth, home of the Holy Family; to the shores of the Galilee, where Jesus preached and healed; and finally through the gates of Jerusalem, where love triumphed over death. Biblical passages and the Pope's homilies breathe life into the ancient sites. Rare footage and a stirring soundtrack capture the Holy Land as never before.
